Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular rehabilitation is an exercise-based program, designed by one of our physiotherapists, to address issues of vertigo, dizziness, and improve balance and quality of life

Vertigo is a common problem affecting up to 30% of adults at least once in their lives.

The vestibular system is the part of the inner ear and the brain that helps control balance, position sense, and coordinated eye movements.  Dysfunction of this system can create dizziness, vertigo, unsteadiness, and/or visual problems.

Approximately 75% of vestibular disorders are peripheral (related to the inner ear or vestibular nerve).  The most common peripheral vestibular disorder includes benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).

Treatment of a vestibular problems may include:

  • Manual manoeuvers to correct BPPV
  • Vestibular habituation exercises
  • Balance re-training
  • Manual therapy to regain mobility of the neck
  • Home exercise program
