Medical Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a precise peripheral nerve stimulation technique, in which the practitioner inserts acupuncture needles at specific points in the skin to produce therapeutic benefits.

Scientifically, acupuncture has been shown to modulate pain messages being transmitted by the nervous system, as well as stimulate production of natural pain relieving chemicals in our bodies, such as endorphins. This therapeutic intervention is often used to encourage the natural healing process of the body, improve one’s energy, reduce or relieve pain, and improve function of the afflicted region of the body.

Physiotherapists at Total Physiotherapy are trained through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada and utilize acupuncture as an effective treatment tool for specified conditions.  Acupuncture can be used as a stand-alone treatment, but is often used in conjunction with other therapeutic options, in order to meet the individual rehabilitation needs of each patient.
